My Story
My journey into the health and wellness space began in 2005 as a massage therapist working alongside chiropractors, physical therapists, acupuncturists and various healers. During the course of nearly two decades healing bodies through massage therapy, I discovered Pilates while working as a physical therapy aide in 2009. This apprenticeship laid the groundwork to discover more teachers and numerous movement techniques, culminating in 500 hours of yoga teacher training through Yoga Works in 2016.
While studying and teaching both yoga and pilates, I began to uncover the pain buried in my own body for so many years. In learning how to create more space in my body through mindful movement, deeper awareness, and breathwork, I gained a better understanding of the mind-body connection and how to release the trapped emotions living in my tissues. As I searched to find answers for myself and my clients who endured similar struggles, I became deeply interested in mindset and nutrition, leading me to get certified as a Holistic Health Coach from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition.
Throughout my coaching practice, I have found that many of my clients struggle with anxiety and depression. This inspired me to study Polyval Theory (Dr. Stephen Porges) as well as Somatic Experiencing (Dr. Peter Levine). Studying the nervous system and its various states deepened my understanding of how to listen for and adjust to my own system and triggers that inevitably show up. My coaching practice soon became centered around the tools that bring the nervous system into more regulated states, supporting those who suffer from bouts of dysregulation (fight, flight, freeze responses) during their day.
My most recent passion for internal Family Systems (IFS), inspired me to take a certification course (led by Fran Booth) in Integrative Somatic Parts Work. Exploring the different parts we all have in our psyche has bolstered my understanding of the impact the mind has on the body (and vice versa), which has enhanced my coaching curriculum and depth of compassion for all my clients.
